India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against New Zealand after suffering a side strain during a practice session in Vadodara. Pant got injured while batting in the nets ahead of the first match on January 11. Dhruv Jurel will be replacing him in the 15-member squad.
The BCCI shared a detailed update in its official statement, which stated, “Wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant felt a sudden onset discomfort in his right lateral abdominal area while batting in the nets during India’s practice session on Saturday afternoon at the BCA Stadium, Vadodara.”
The board added, “He was taken for MRI scans immediately and the BCCI Medical Team had a detailed discussion with an expert on his clinical and radiological findings.”
The statement confirmed that Pant has been ruled out of the entire series. “Pant has been diagnosed with a side strain (oblique muscle tear) and is subsequently ruled out of the ODI series,” the BCCI wrote.
Confirming Jurel’s inclusion, the BCCI said, “The Men’s Selection Committee has named Dhruv Jurel as Pant’s replacement, and Jurel has linked up with the squad.”
Jurel is yet to make his ODI debut, but he has been in strong List A form. He scored 558 runs in six innings at an average of 93.00, which includes four fifties and two centuries.
