India opener Rohit Sharma has unlocked yet another achievement in his illustrious career. On Sunday, he became the first player to hit 650 sixes across formats in international cricket.

The 38-year-old batter reached the milestone in the first ODI of the three-match series against New Zealand. Opening the batting, Rohit struck two sixes — one off Zakary Foulkes and one off Kyle Jamieson — to take his sixes tally to 650.

It is pertinent to note that no other batter has even touched the 600 mark when it comes to six-hitting in international cricket. Chris Gayle is next on the list after Rohit with 553 sixes. The former West Indies opener remains the only other player to have slammed over 500 maximums. Across all formats, Rohit Sharma has now struck 329 sixes while opening the innings, edging past Chris Gayle’s tally of 328. Remarkably, the Indian batter achieved this milestone in far fewer chances, needing just 191 innings compared to Gayle’s 284, a difference of 83 innings.

The only other cricketer to clear the 400 sixes mark in international cricket is Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, who leads the list with 476.

Among Indians, MS Dhoni follows Rohit with 359 maximums in international cricket.

Rohit looked good for his 26, which included a couple of sixes and three fours. The Mumbai-based cricketer got a start but could not convert it into a big score.
