Veteran India batter Virat Kohli was named the Player of the Series as India sealed the three-match ODI series 2-1 against South Africa on December 6 in Visakhapatnam. After two back-to-back centuries in the first two games, Kohli smashed an unbeaten 65 off 45 as the Men in Blue chased down the 271-run target in 39.5 overs with nine wickets in hand.

He finished the series with 302 runs in three innings, averaging 151.00, and deservedly bagged the Player of the Series award. Notably, it turned out to be his 11th Player of the Series award in ODIs. During the post-match presentation, Kohli shared how satisfying this series had been for him.

“Just playing the way I have this series has been the most satisfying for me. Feel really free in my mind, whole game is coming together nicely. I’ve tried to maintain my own standards and make an impact. I can bat long and according to the situation. You have many phases where you feel doubt. You feel nervous, especially in batting where one mistake can cost you,” he said.

“It’s a whole journey, getting better, becoming a better person. I can realise the negative thinking patterns, knowing and working on that helps the temperament. I’m glad to still be contribute to the team,” he added.

Talking about his form in the series, Kohli said, “When I play freely, I know I can hit sixes. Just wanted to push my boundaries and go well. The first innings was the best this series. I hadn’t played since Australia, just the energy on the day helps take risks. That opened me up in a way l’ve not felt in a while. Grateful for how the games have gone. Must-win brings the best out of us. I want to make a play. Happy Rohit and I can help the team even now.”
