The Indian Super League (ISL) clubs have formally sought greater clarity from the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on both the immediate and long-term structure of the competition ahead of the key meeting on Friday.
In a letter addressed to the AIFF, ISL clubs, through Mohun Bagan Super Giant CEO Vinay Chopra, reiterated the need for a clearer roadmap before any decision is taken on the upcoming season. The communication comes ahead of a crucial meeting scheduled for December 26, where representatives of the clubs and the federation are expected to discuss the way forward.
The committee, constituted by the AIFF earlier this month to find a resolution to the current impasse, includes Goa Football Association president Caitano Fernandes, Kerala Football Association president Navas Meeran, and Indian Football Association secretary Anirban Datta, with AIFF deputy secretary general M. Satyanarayan serving as an ex-officio member. The panel was formed following the General Body meeting on December 20, after differences emerged over the future structure of the league.
In their letter, the clubs acknowledged the efforts made by the federation and welcomed continued dialogue. However, they stressed the need for a detailed presentation of the long-term league structure and commercial framework before any short-term decisions are finalised. According to the clubs, clarity on these aspects is essential for informed decision-making.
While the clubs expressed openness to participating in a short-term version of the league, they underlined that such participation must be aligned with a broader and sustainable vision. In particular, they sought greater clarity on key areas such as the proposed revenue model, broadcasting arrangements and the overall cost structure, including how financial responsibilities would be shared.
The AIFF committee is expected to review these concerns when it meets on December 26, where representatives from the clubs will be present. The outcome of the meeting is likely to play a decisive role in determining whether the ISL can begin this season and under what framework.
