
The Indian sports calendar for 2026 is set to be action-packed, with major events such as the Men’s T20 World Cup and the BWF World Championships all lined up.
Fans can also look forward to top-level competition across a wide range of sports, including hockey, shooting and athletics.
The year kicks off in January with the Women’s Premier League (WPL), which will be played from January 9 to February 5. This will be followed by the India Open Badminton Super 750 in New Delhi, the Mumbai Marathon, and the Hockey India League, which will be hosted across Chennai, Ranchi and Bhubaneswar.
In February, India will co-host the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In tennis, the Davis Cup Qualifiers will be held in Bengaluru, while in table tennis, the WTT Star Contender will take place in Chennai.
Shooting will take centre stage with the New Delhi Asian Championship Rifle/Pistol event, followed by the inaugural edition of the Shooting League of India. In hockey, FIH Pro League fixtures will also be played in India.
March will be highlighted by squash’s premier domestic tournament, the JSW Indian Open, alongside the men’s Indian Open gold event in New Delhi. The IPL is also expected to begin later in the month.
In April, Ahmedabad will host the Asian Weightlifting Championships 2026.
New Delhi will host the BWF World Championships in August, one of the most prestigious events on the international badminton calendar. Bhubaneswar will host India’s first-ever World Athletics Continental Tour Silver-level meet, an upgrade from the bronze-level competition held at the venue in 2025.
The spotlight will then shift to October, when New Delhi hosts the National Open Athletics Championships. The Women’s Indian Open in golf will be held in Gurugram, followed by the India International Challenge badminton tournament in Raipur.
In November, Lucknow will host the Syed Modi India International Super 300. In December, the Guwahati Masters and the Odisha Masters are also scheduled to take place, rounding off an action-packed year.
