India Women head coach Amol Muzumdar addressed the media on the eve of the Trivandrum leg of the series, with the hosts firmly in control at 2–0 after comprehensive wins in Vizag. With three matches remaining, Muzumdar stressed that while results matter, the larger focus remains on preparation and adaptability.

Adapting to Conditions, Not Chasing Challenges

Muzumdar made it clear that India’s approach would be dictated by conditions rather than preconceived ideas. With the team yet to fully assess the Trivandrum surface, he said decisions on batting or bowling first would be taken only after reading the pitch and ground dimensions. “It’s not about taking up challenges for the sake of it. It’s about identifying what suits the conditions and catering to that,” he explained.

Assessing the Trivandrum Surface

The Indian camp plans to spend extended time on the main ground during training to get a clearer picture of how the pitch behaves. Muzumdar indicated that the team management would take an informed call once they had assessed both the wicket and the outfield, reinforcing India’s flexible approach.

Deepti Fit, Renuka Rested for Combination

Providing an update on personnel, Muzumdar confirmed that Deepti Sharma is fully fit and available for selection. Renuka Singh, meanwhile, was rested as part of experimenting with combinations. “She is an integral part of this team. We are just trying out a few things within the group,” he said.

Vaishnavi Sharma and the Domestic Pathway

One of the key takeaways from the press conference was Muzumdar’s strong backing of Vaishnavi Sharma. He credited her calmness, control and mental strength in the two matches so far, while emphasising that her selection was a reward for sustained domestic and Under-19 performances. “Domestic performance was rewarded by the selectors, and full credit to them,” he noted.

World Cup Preparation and Team Progress

With six months to go before the T20 World Cup, Muzumdar said the side is striving to strike a balance between experimentation and settling combinations. He acknowledged areas that need improvement but maintained that India are moving in the right direction.

Fielding, Fitness and a Progressive Mindset

Responding to questions on fielding inconsistencies, Muzumdar reiterated that the team continuously works on all facets batting, bowling, fielding and fitness. “We are a progressive side. We talk, we review, and we try to improve day by day,” he said.

Respect for Sri Lanka

Muzumdar concluded by underlining respect for the opposition, calling Sri Lanka a quality side with several match-winners and reiterating that India approach every opponent with equal seriousness.
