Kane Williamson, the veteran New Zealand cricketer, is back playing in the nets as he looks to recover from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in his right knee. Williamson sustained the serious injury during the inaugural match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He subsequently underwent surgery in New Zealand.

“I’ve been making progress in my movements and incorporating some batting aspects that involve more footwork. There’s still work to be done, and I’m putting in the hard work,” said Williamson in a video released by New Zealand Cricket (NZC).

However, New Zealand head coach, Gary Stead, pointed out that the experienced cricketer isn’t yet ready to play competitive cricket. “It’s heartening to see him with a bat in hand, even though he’s not yet at the international performance level. It’s a positive step in his recovery journey. His commitment to the team and determination to continue playing is truly inspiring.”

Officially, Williamson has not yet been ruled out of the tournament.
