Australia batter Travis Head has affirmed that he is open to the idea of batting anywhere amidst the speculations regarding his position for the second Test in Brisbane.
Replacing Usman Khawaja at the top of the order at late notice, Head blasted a match-winning hundred while opening the innings on Day 2 of the Perth Test. Speculations are rife about Head potentially opening the batting at the Gabba, leaving Khawaja, who’s having fitness issues, out of the XI.
Head underlined Pat Cummins’ comment when he said the batting orders are overrated. The current Australian Test line-up lives by the idea of versatility, echoes Head.
“We’ve talked about that a lot: how you get there, and what personnel we have to be able to potentially do that and the personalities in the line-up,” Head told reporters in Brisbane. “You’ve seen it a little bit in the T20 team as well, where we’re trying to push the boundaries in power-hitting, and [asking] do we take singles at certain stages… I feel like I can play in any role, so I’m open to it, and it’s just trying to work out in-game and in moments when that may come out and when you may use that.
“I agree with Pat (Cummins). I think you could use this order and these players in a range of different ways and whatever ways that is to win games of cricket,” he added.
Struggling with form and fitness, Khawaja has managed to retain his place in the squad for pink-ball Test at the Gabba but Australia haven’t locked him at the top as they are keeping their options open.
The second Test begins from December 4.
