Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been ruled out of the IPL 2026 after the Kolkata Knight Riders released him from the squad following an instruction from the BCCI.

In line with IPL regulations, the Knight Riders can sign a replacement player from those who went unsold at the auction, which took place in Abu Dhabi last month.

Mustafizur, who has taken 65 wickets in 60 IPL matches, was one of the three frontline pacers KKR acquired at the auction for INR 9.2 crore. The left-arm pacer was the only Bangladesh cricketer to be picked.

Since making his debut in 2016, Mustafizur has represented Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

“Kolkata Knight Riders confirmed that the BCCI/IPL, as the regulator of the IPL, instructed the franchise to release Mustafizur Rahman from the squad ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season,” the three-time champions said in an official statement. “The release was carried out following due process and consultations, as instructed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Before the official release, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the development without specifying the reason.

“Due to the recent developments taking place across the board, the BCCI has instructed the franchise KKR to release one of their players, Mustafizur Rahman of Bangladesh, from their squad. The BCCI has also stated that if they seek a replacement, it will be permitted,” Saikia told news agency ANI on Saturday morning.

KKR are likely to announce a replacement soon. Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is expected to issue a statement in response to Mustafizur’s omission from the IPL.
