has emerged as the leading candidate to take over as Chelsea’s next head coach, following the departure of Enzo Maresca. The 41-year-old, currently in charge of French club Strasbourg, is understood to be the preferred option among Chelsea’s hierarchy as they begin the process of appointing a new manager.

Maresca left the club earlier this week after internal differences with the ownership group, bringing an end to a short, successful and turbulent spell at Stamford Bridge. With Chelsea keen to maintain continuity in their footballing philosophy, Rosenior’s name has quickly risen to the top of the list.

One of the key reasons behind his strong candidacy is his connection with BlueCo, the ownership group that controls both Chelsea and Strasbourg. Rosenior has been working under the same multi-club structure in France and is already familiar with its long-term vision, recruitment model and style of play. That alignment is seen as a major advantage at a time when the club wants stability rather than another complete rebuild.

The former Hull City and Brighton defender has earned widespread respect for his coaching journey. After retiring from playing, Rosenior moved into coaching at Brighton, later working as assistant manager at Derby County before stepping into a head coach role. He impressed during his time at Hull City, narrowly missing out on the Championship play-offs, and has further enhanced his reputation during his spell in France.

At Strasbourg, Rosenior has been praised for his tactical flexibility, man-management and calm authority. His teams are known for their structured build-up, fluid attacking shape and high-intensity pressing, principles that closely resemble the football Chelsea have aimed to implement in recent seasons. This tactical compatibility is one of the main reasons the club sees him as a natural successor to Maresca.

Rosenior has also gained credit for his work with young players, a key factor given Chelsea’s squad profile. Several players under his guidance have shown noticeable development, and his ability to communicate clearly and manage modern dressing rooms has impressed senior figures within the club.

Beyond the pitch, Rosenior’s calm public persona and media awareness are viewed as assets. Chelsea’s leadership is keen to avoid unnecessary controversy after a period of instability, and Rosenior’s composed approach is seen as a strong fit for the club’s long-term strategy.

If appointed, Rosenior would become one of the few black managers to take charge of a Premier League club, adding further significance to his potential appointment. The former defender has previously spoken about the importance of representation in football management and the influence of his father, former professional footballer Leroy Rosenior, on his career.

While other names have been discussed internally, multiple reports suggest Chelsea are seriously considering moving forward with Rosenior as their next head coach. With the club keen to move quickly and bring clarity ahead of the second half of the season, a decision is expected soon.
