Top-order batter Brandon King will lead West Indies in the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, which will be played in Dubai from 19 to 22 January. King has been handed the baton to lead the team as the incumbent captain, Shai Hope, is occupied with the ongoing season of the SA20.

Along with Hope, players such as Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein and Sherfane Rutherford will also remain in South Africa for their respective franchise commitments.

Uncapped batter Quentin Sampson, who impressed in the CPL 2025, has earned a maiden international call-up in the 16-member squad. After recovering from their respective injuries, Evin Lewis and Shamar Joseph have been recalled.

First-choice all-rounders Rovman Powell, Jason Holder and Romario Shepherd have been rested for the series.

“The opportunity to play competitive matches in subcontinental conditions is ideal, as it assists with our preparations and confidence-building ahead of what will be a competitive T20 World Cup,” WI head coach Daren Sammy said. “It also presents a valuable platform to assess players who missed significant time towards the end of 2025, as well as those stepping into important roles for this series, prior to the selection of the final squad.”

West Indies squad for T20Is against Afghanistan: Brandon King (captain), Alick Athanaze, Keacy Carty, Johnson Charles, Matthew Forde, Justin Greaves, Shimron Hetmyer, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Evin Lewis, Gudakesh Motie, Khary Pierre, Quentin Sampson, Jayden Seales, Ramon Simmonds, Shamar Springer.
