( Shubman Gill, PC-X)
Will Shubman Gill partake in the upcoming five-match India–South Africa T20Is? And is the India Test and ODI captain coming to the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for a rehabilitation programme? These are the questions lingering in every Indian cricket fan’s mind concerning Gill’s recovery from a neck injury.
First things first, it is true that Gill is set to arrive at the CoE on December 1 (Monday). However, as confirmed by sources, he was yet to reach the facility by mid-afternoon. Most likely, Gill will check in late in the evening or at night. So, one wouldn’t expect him to begin any rehabilitation programme or indulge in batting practice today.
Secondly, regarding the status of Gill’s neck problem, there is some good news: He is recovering well and could still feature in the upcoming T20I series against South Africa, beginning on December 8 in Cuttack. According to sources, he isn’t feeling much pain.
In the last few days, Gill has also travelled extensively, including to Mumbai, where he underwent physiotherapy. Now, he will travel from Chandigarh to Bengaluru. Despite the travel, Gill is said to be fine, all positive signs for the Indian captain. However, a caveat must be added: the Indian think tank isn’t in any hurry to rush him back into international action.
Gill has played non-stop cricket for a while, and with India facing a hectic schedule ahead, it seems logical that the management is treading cautiously regarding his return.
