Team India star Smriti Mandhana is set to play The Women’s Hundred 2026 after being confirmed as part of the Manchester Super Giants team on January 15. The announcement came after the Manchester-based team was rebranded from Manchester Originals to Manchester Super Giants. The team will continue to play its home matches at Emirates Old Trafford. The change reflects a fresh start under the joint ownership of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group (RPSG) and Lancashire Cricket.
The owner of Manchester Super Giants, Goenka, shared his excitement and said, “This is an exciting and important phase for us as we formally integrate the Manchester cricket franchise into the wider Super Giants family. It marks the beginning of a new chapter, grounded in ambition and long-term vision for the game in the UK.”
While confirming Smriti’s inclusion in the team, Goenka said, “For the women’s team, we have brought together an exceptional blend of experience and excellence, featuring some of the most accomplished players in the global game: Meg Lanning, Smriti Mandhana, and Sophie Ecclestone. Together, they reflect the standards and ambition we want the Manchester Super Giants to represent.”
Earlier, Mandhana played in the tournament for Southern Brave across four seasons (2021–24), scoring 676 runs in 29 innings at a strike rate of 139.09, including five fifties.
Talking about the men’s team, he said, “On the men’s side, we have secured two world-class batters and proven match-winners in Jos Buttler and Heinrich Klaasen, alongside two outstanding spin options, Noor Ahmad, widely regarded as one of the most exciting young spinners in world cricket, and Liam Dawson.”
The franchise has also announced a strong coaching setup. Tom Moody has been appointed Global Director of Cricket. Matthew Mott has taken charge of the women’s team, while Justin Langer will lead the men’s team as head coach.
The fixtures will be revealed on January 27. The remaining squads will be completed during the player auction in March 2026.
