Australia are set to include Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewoodand Tim David in their provisional squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, despite all three players dealing with fitness concerns.

Cummins is still under close monitoring after suffering a lumbar stress injury earlier this year. After returning for the Adelaide Test against England, Cummins has played only one international match since July before being rested again. Australia are not rushing their captain and will wait for further medical updates before making a final decision. Cummins last played a T20I against India in June 2024.

Australia head coach Andrew McDonald confirmed that Cummins will be named in the initial squad, but final confirmation is still on hold.

“Pat will have a scan, I think in another four weeks, so that’llgive us the information then on where he’s at for the World Cup. He’ll be named in the squad of 15, and then we’ll get that information as to where he’s at,” McDonald said.

Hazlewood missed the entire Ashes series due to hamstring and Achilles issues but is expected to be fit in time. McDonald added,
“Josh is returning to bowl. He looks as though he should be right in terms of possible timeframes.”

Tim David also picked up a hamstring injury during the Big Bash League on Boxing Day. Despite the setback, Australia remain hopeful about his recovery.
“Not sure whether it’s just pure muscle or tendon, and that’llgive us a timeframe. I think the timeframe will be kind on TD as well. So he should be available no matter what that injury is,” McDonald said.

The squad for the tournament must be submitted before January 2. Australia will begin their World Cup campaign on February 11 against Ireland in Colombo.
