South Africa has faced a major setback ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup as allrounder Donovan Ferreira is facing injury concerns. Ferreira has suffered a shoulder injury while playing for Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 against Pretoria Capitals on January 17 at Johannesburg.
Ferreira was fielding near the boundary, when he dived to stop a four during the final ball of the innings but he landed in a uncomfortable position on his left shoulder. He couldn’t save the boundary but the impact caused him serious issue. He later came out to bat but struggled to move his arm freely and retired hurt after facing just one delivery.
After the match, Ferreira was admitted as he was not feeling well and would go for scans. According to a report of ESPNcricinfo he has suffered a fracture.
This injury will rule him out of the remainder of the SA20, which is a big blow for Joburg Super Kings, who are still fighting to secure a spot in the playoffs. Few days back their usual captain Faf Du Plessis was also ruled out of the tournament due to his thumb injury.
For South Africa, his injury remains a major concern as Ferreira was picked mainly as a finisher and a backup wicketkeeper along with part-time bowling. This is not the only problem for South Africa as batter Tony de Zorzi still has to prove himself after his hamstring injury which is sustained in December but he will be back in action in a three match T20I series against West Indies from January 27.
