The second season of the Women’s Premier League has been nothing short of sensational. From back-to-back half-centuries to three-wicket hauls to last-ball finishes, the tournament keeps getting hotter and hotter. You think it couldn’t get better, but it does.

And what’s the pièce de résistance, you may wonder? The crowd! Brace yourself if you happen to navigate around the Chinnaswamy Stadium during match hours – you’re in for a traffic snarl. Why? Because the fans just can’t seem to get enough of the WPL action. With each passing match, the Bangalore crowd continues to exceed expectations. When you witness fans sprinting towards the gates, eager to catch the very first ball bowled, you can’t help but acknowledge the resounding success of the tournament.

Alice Capsey’s Epic Debut in WPL Opener

Picture this: A 19-year-old dynamo from England steps on to the field for Delhi Capitals in the Women’s Premier League opener against the mighty Mumbai Indians. The crowds may wonder, ‘What’s the most she could do’? But boy, were they in for a ride.

Alice Capsey’s bat was like a magic wand, conjuring 75 runs off just 53 balls, complete with eight boundaries and three sixes. Teaming up with the skipper Meg Lanning, they stitched a partnership as solid as a rock, after losing Shafali Verma early on. Even the fiery Nat Sciver-Brunt couldn’t dampen Capsey’s spirit, though she eventually fell victim to her. Her demolition didn’t stop there, she later took two wickets while giving away 23 runs in four overs.

Marizanne Kapp’s Bowling Brilliance Against UP Warriorz

UP Warriorz were ready to unleash their fury, but Marizanne Kapp had other plans. With her bowling arm as precise as a laser beam, she snatched three crucial wickets, giving away a mere five runs in her four overs, bowling with an unbelievable economy of 1.25. When she sent the Warriorz skipper, Alyssa Healy, packing, she hit a bullseye. UPW’s top order hope was now back in the pavilion. Kapp’s spell not only turned the match in Delhi Capitals’ favour but also proved that when she’s on fire, no opponent can escape her wrath.

Sobhana Asha Joy’s Historic Heroics for RCB

A tale for the ages, Sobhana Asha Joy, the underdog spinner from Royal Challengers Bangalore, etched her name in WPL history to become only the fourth player to scalp a jaw-dropping five-wicket haul. It was as if she had a date with destiny as she demolished the opposition’s batting line-up, leaving them in shambles. Her emotional celebration was a rollercoaster ride of tears and triumph, symbolising the sheer grit and determination it took to achieve such a feat.

Asha who represented Kerala, Railways and Puducherry in the domestic circuit, emulated legendary Anil Kumble. Like Kumble, Asha also got her five wicket-haul in the second match of the tournament, Kumble got his five-for against Rajasthan Royals in the second match of the IPL 2009.
