Following the loss against Mumbai City FC in the ISL final on Saturday, Mohun Bagan Super Giants have set their eyes now on adding more firepower ahead of the Asian Champions League play off qualifier 2. According to reports, the reigning ISL League Shield winners are in talks with Melbourne City striker Jamie McLaren. The 30-year-old, who has represented the Australian national team has been offered a multi-year contract by the century old club.

McLaren’s speculative move to the ISL club is linked with a social media post of him where he wrote that he would be parting ways with Melbourne City FC. Dimitri Petratos, who is the current member of Mohun Bagan Super Giants side has commented below the post, raising further speculation about McLaren joining the Mariners.

Talking about Maclaren, he is recognized among Asia’s elite strikers and boasts a distinguished career spanning across Australia and Scotland. He has also showcased his talents on the international stage, most recently representing Australia in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Maclaren started his career with Aussie outfit Green Gully SC before joining English side Blacburn Rovers in 2009. He made headlines after scoring a hat-trick against Manchester United. Following his stint with Red Devils, McLaren returned to his homeland where he joined Perth Glory on a three-year deal in 2014-15. He later switched over to Brisbane Roar, where he made an immediate impact with 18 goals in his debut A-League season, earning him the A-League Golden Boot. The following season saw Maclaren continue his prolific form with 19 goals, securing another Golden Boot accolade.

Maclaren also plied his trade with Bundesliga 2 side Darmstadt 98 before a loan stint at Scottish side Hibernian. His time in Scotland was highlighted by a memorable hat-trick against Rangers FC.

In 2019, Maclaren made a significant move to Melbourne City FC, where he enjoyed instant success, clinching the Golden Boot in his debut season with 22 goals. His prolific scoring spree saw him become the club’s all-time leading goal-scorer with an impressive tally of 103 goals.

If the deal does go through, then Mohun Bagan Super Giants will be further strengthened having already boasts of quality players like Dimitri Petratos and Jason Cummings.

In another development, Head Coach Antonio Lopez Habas has indicated his desire to stay with the Mariners for another season.
