Former New Zealand captain Daniel Vettori has stepped in as the new head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), succeeding Brian Lara.

Vettori brings a wealth of coaching experience, having previously coached Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2014 to 2018. Under his guidance, RCB reached the playoffs in 2015 and made it to the final in 2016. Presently, Vettori also serves as the assistant coach for the Australia men’s team.

Brian Lara had taken over the coaching reins of Sunrisers ahead of the 2023 IPL season, but the team finished at the bottom (tenth place) with four wins and ten losses. This development marks the fifth change in Sunrisers’ head coach within six seasons.

Expressing their gratitude, SRH bid farewell to Lara in a social media post: “As our two-year journey with Brian Lara comes to a close, we extend our thanks for his contributions to Sunrisers. We wish you the best in your future endeavours.”
