Former India batter Mohammad Kaif believes that Virat Kohli has a clear edge over Rohit Sharma in ODI cricket, citing Kohli’s ability to convert starts into big innings as the key differentiator.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Kaif said that Kohli’s ability to stay till the end at the crease is the reason behind his success.
“Virat Kohli converts starts. A score of 30 or 40 means he will stay till the end, win the match, and, if he gets into form, become consistent. That is why, in ODI cricket, Virat Kohli has always been ahead of Rohit Sharma. He consistently scores runs and plays big innings. You could see it when Virat Kohli got out in the first ODI; he was shaking his head, clearly thinking he played the wrong shot,” he said.
In his overall ODI career, Kohli has played 310 matches and scored 14,673 runs at an average of 58.45. His tally includes 53 hundreds and 77 fifties. While, Rohit has played 281 ODI matches, scoring 11,566 runs at an average of 49.00, which includes 33 hundreds and 61 fifties.
Recently, both batters have been in good form. Rohit was the highest scorer on the Australia tour, scoring 202 runs. Meanwhile, Kohli hit five back-to-back fifty-plus scores, which included two hundreds and a match-winning 93-run knock against New Zealand in the first ODI of the three-match series in Vadodara.
