Wong’s all-round show powers England A to series win

PC – BCCI. Issy Wong put on a fine all-round show
In a nail-biting showdown at Wankhede Stadium, the clash between India A Women and Eng A Women kept fans on the edge of their seats. England A women won the game by 2 wickets and with 5 balls remaining. With this win, England A also sealed the series. Issy Wong was the star performer of the match, picking up two wickets and scoring an unbeaten 28.
Despite the relatively batting-friendly wicket, India A struggled to find the right gears. The nerves of the high-stakes decider were palpable as the batters struggled to find their usual rhythm. Uma Chetry, the 21-year-old dynamo from Assam, showcased her talent with a quickfire 21 off 16 deliveries. Disha Kasat displayed resilience, contributing a solid 20.
However, apart from Kasat and Chetry, the other batters failed to capitalize on promising starts, missing the crucial momentum to propel their team forward. The English bowlers delivered a collective performance, consistently taking wickets and maintaining pressure. Mahika Gaur emerged as the standout bowler, conceding only 8 runs in her three overs and picked up the significant wicket of Dinesh Vrinda.
In a chase of 102, the England innings didn’t start smoothly either, with the Indian bowlers making early breakthroughs. Shreyanka Patil continued her impactful performance, securing two wickets for just 13 runs in her four overs. Minnu Mani complemented Patil’s effort with two crucial wickets.
England’s captain, Hollie Armitage, initially seemed to steer the game in their favor, reaching 27 off 28 deliveries before being run out by Mannat Kashyap. This pivotal moment swung the game back in India’s favor, instilling belief that they were still very much in contention.
However, Wong’s clever batting once again proved decisive, guiding England to a challenging yet successful chase. Beyond the thrilling contest, the match highlighted the consistent quality of cricket played by both teams throughout the series.
