Australia all-rounder Kim Garth has opened up about the painful semi-final loss against India in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, admitting that the defeat still lingers in her mind.

Speaking on a podcast on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), Garth shared her emotions surrounding the loss and acknowledged India’s quality as a side. “Definitely, I think that one still hurts a bit. That semi-final loss, India are obviously a very good team. So look, I think every time we play India, it’s always a good game,” she said.

India secured a memorable win in the semi-final with a historic run chase. The victory saw them knock out the seven-time champions and end Australia’s 16-match unbeaten streak in the 2025 campaign. The high-scoring semi-final was played on October 30 at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Australia were defending a massive total of 338 runs, and Garth played a key role with the ball. She struck early by removing Shafali Verma (10) and Smriti Mandhana (24) and finished with impressive figures, conceding just 46 runs in her seven overs at an economy rate of 6.57. Despite her strong spell, India stayed in the hunt, led by a sensational knock from Jemimah Rodrigues. Her unbeaten 127 proved decisive as India successfully chased down the 339-run target.

The two sides are set to meet again next year when India tour Australia for a full series. The tour will feature three T20Is, three ODIs and a Test match, scheduled to be played between February and March across different venues in Australia.

Looking ahead to the challenging series, Garth highlighted the excitement of playing across formats and conditions.

“So, I think to have obviously three one-dayers, three T20s and a Test match in a space of a month and in different conditions all around Australia is going to be really interesting,” she said.

Garth has also enjoyed a solid run in domestic cricket. Recently, she has picked up 14 wickets in 11 matches in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) while representing the Melbourne Stars. Her performances have also earned her a contract in the Women’s Premier League, where she has been acquired by Gujarat Giants for ₹50 lakh ahead of WPL 2026.
