UP Warriorz (UPW) skipper Meg Lanning praised her bowlers after their seven-wicket win against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the eighth match of WPL 2026. This was UPW’s first win of the season and a much-needed one to keep them relevant in the playoff race. UPW chased down the 162-run target in 18.1 overs, with Harleen Deol bagging the Player of the Match award for her match-winning unbeaten 64-run knock.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, Lanning expressed happiness over Harleen Deol’s match-winning performance.
“Oh, look, I had a quick chat to her and she took yesterday really well. And to come out tonight and play as she did was really great to see. It just shows, you know, what she can do in this format. And yeah, she made it look very easy. So hopefully that gives her a lot of confidence heading into the backend of the tournament. Yeah, sometimes things work out as you hope they would. But you’re right, the bowlers did an excellent job. I think we read the pitch reasonably well and were able to adjust to the conditions. And yeah, to keep them to 160-odd, I think was a really good effort and then allowed our batters to do their thing,” she said.
UPW bowlers were extremely economical in the early overs of MI’s innings and kept the batters in check. Nat Sciver-Brunt’s 65 and Nicola Carey’s unbeaten 32 off 20 took MI to 161/5 in their 20 overs.
In reply, Harleen built two important partnerships that were instrumental in UPW’s win. With Phoebe Litchfield, she added 73 runs off 49 balls, while with Chloe Tryon she stitched an unbeaten partnership of 44 runs off 19 balls.
