Jemimah Rodrigues believes that Delhi Capitals are ready to break their long-standing jinx in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL). After losing three consecutive finals, the newly appointed captain feels the team can change its fortunes, just like the India Women’s team did during the 2025 ODI World Cup.
Speaking during a selected media interaction and replying to a Hindustan Times query, Rodrigues addressed the long-standing “chokers” tag associated with the franchise.
“I think DC for the last three years have played some exceptional cricket. I think we’ve been the best team in the tournament throughout the last three years and yeah, things didn’t go well in the finals of all three years, but you know, the thing about time is it changes and you never know, things just fall into place. We saw it happen with us in the World Cup. Till then, till now, everyone used to call us chokers, the Indian women’s cricket team, but things changed, and I don’t think we changed anything much,” Jemimah replied to Hindustan Times’ query.
Rodrigues was a crucial part of India’s historic ODI World Cup triumph on November 2, when the team finally lifted their maiden ICC trophy. She believes the same mindset and belief can help Delhi Capitals in the upcoming WPL season.
Praising DC’s consistency and hard work over the years, she added, “We just kept working hard and kept believing and that’s what DC has also done consistently well. We keep believing that, you know, our time is now and you never know, things might just fall into place.”
DC will begin their WPL 2026 season against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) on January 10 in Navi Mumbai.
