Pakistan star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi had a tough start to his Big Bash League (BBL) career. Shaheen made his debut for Brisbane Heat, which ended badly against Melbourne Renegades in Geelong. He was not allowed to finish his bowling spell, which left Shaheen visibly disappointed.
Shaheen struggled from the start and turned out to be the most expensive bowler of the match. After giving away runs in his first two overs, he was brought back to bowl in the 18th over to prevent Renegades from scoring. Instead, he bowled two dangerous waist-high full tosses, known as beamers. After the second beamer, the umpires restricted him from bowling for the rest of the match, which ended his debut on a sad note.
The left-arm pacer bowled only 2.4 overs, conceding 43 runs at an economy rate of 16.12. Jack Wildermuth was the key bowler for Brisbane as he picked up three crucial wickets and conceded 34 runs. However, Wildermuth’s efforts were not enough to restrict Melbourne, as with the help of Tim Seifert (102) and Oliver Peake (57), the team posted a massive total of 212 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Pakistan wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan also had a disappointing debut in the BBL. He came in to bat at number three for the Renegades but found it difficult to settle and scored only four runs off 10 balls before getting out.
Brisbane fought back as Colin Munro (55) and Jimmy Peirson (50) helped them reach 198/8 in their 20 overs. Will Sutherland was the key bowler for Melbourne as he also picked up three wickets, helping them win by 14 runs.
