One of the well-known names in India’s domestic cricket and the IPL, KC Cariappa has announced his retirement. The mystery spinner did so through a social media post, reflecting on his journey from the very beginning.
He wrote on social media: “From the streets where it all began to stadium lights and wearing the jersey with pride, I lived the dream I once only imagined. Today, I officially announce my retirement from BCCI cricket. This journey gave me everything. Victories that made me smile, defeats that broke me and lessons that shaped me. I owe my deepest gratitude to KSCA for building me, guiding me and believing in me when it mattered the most. And to the Cricket Association of Mizoram, thank you for trusting me and supporting me like family.”
His exceptional performances in the Karnataka Premier League (KPL) drew the attention of IPL scouts, and it was Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who gave him his first break in the IPL in 2015, buying him for INR 2.4 crore. The right-arm bowler took the wicket of AB de Villiers on his debut but was dropped soon after. He later joined Kings XI Punjab in 2016 for INR 80 lakh. Rajasthan Royals (RR) was the last franchise he represented.
In his overall IPL career, Cariappa played 11 matches and took eight wickets.
In domestic cricket, he featured in 14 first-class matches, taking 75 wickets. The Bengaluru-born bowler also played 20 List A matches, picking up 24 wickets, and 58 T20 matches, where he claimed 58 wickets.
