Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Smriti Mandhana expressed her happiness after their nine-wicket win against UP Warriorz (UPW) in the ongoing WPL 2026 and praised her bowlers for making the batters’ job easier.
Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, she said: “It was the best seat in the house for me to watch Grace whack those balls. But the bowling, the way everyone bowled and chipped in and executed the plans, I mean, that was something really special to watch. (On Bell) I was just joking around about how she’s going to get plans back home, because in the last two matches, the first three overs, I mean, she’s just not letting anyone touch the ball, which I feel she can keep continuing to do and set the tone for us. I mean, just giving six overs and 20-odd runs, I mean, that’s how you start bowling when you win the toss.”
UPW kept losing wickets regularly until the ninth over, and at one point they were reduced to 50/5. After that, Deandra Dottin and Deepti Sharma put together an unbeaten partnership of 93 runs to take UPW to a respectable total of 143. Nadine de Klerk picked up two wickets, while Lauren Bell was extremely economical, finishing with figures of 1/16 from her four overs.
RCB chased the target comfortably with 41 balls to spare, thanks to a blistering 85 off 40 balls from Grace Harris and an unbeaten 47 from Mandhana.
UPW captain Meg Lanning admitted that her team were “outplayed” and gave credit to the RCB bowlers.
“We would have loved to start with a win or two, but we were outplayed tonight by RCB. They bowled really well up front, put us under pressure and never allowed us to get away. It wasn’t our best night, but the good thing is the games come thick and fast, so we can move on quickly,” Lanning said.
