Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan praised ex-India captain Rohit Sharma after his superb knock of 57 off 51 balls against South Africa in the first ODI of the three-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Irfan said that Rohit’s age is not visible because the batter has improved his fitness.
“As for Rohit Sharma, he seems to be at his peak. It doesn’t look like he is 38, he has improved his fitness. But the way he is playing according to the conditions and batting flawlessly, the half-century only shows with what mindset he is moving forward.”
Rohit added 136 runs off just 109 balls with his long-time partner Virat Kohli to set the base for a big total for India. Rohit has been in excellent form since the Australia tour, where he scored a hundred and a fifty. Recently, he also moved back to the No. 1 ODI batter in the ICC Rankings.
There were many talks before the Australia tour about whether Rohit and Kohli would be able to play the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 or not. As of now, it seems that the duo has answered with their bats.
Irfan further said: “It feels extremely good seeing how these two players are progressing. Rohit was dropped once off Nandre Burger’s bowling but he batted exceptionally – whether it be playing on the up or pull shot.”
