The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the franchises that Deepak Hooda has not been cleared to bowl in the IPL and remains in the suspect category, as was the case in the previous edition of the tournament. This information has been passed on to the ten franchises ahead of the mini-auction, which will take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the organising body has conveyed this message to the franchises as Hooda has been listed in the auction as an ‘all-rounder’. If Hooda is reported for a dubious bowling action again, he risks being banned from bowling in the IPL.
The 30-year-old has set his base price at INR 75 lakh and has been placed in the AL1 category. There are six other all-rounders in that bracket, featuring the likes of Venkatesh Iyer and Rachin Ravindra.
Hooda played seven matches for Chennai Super Kings in the previous IPL season and endured a disappointing run earlier this year. The spin-bowling all-rounder did not bowl in any of the matches he played.
Recently, however, he bowled three overs in a match in Ahmedabad, claiming three wickets for 24 runs.
Alongside Hooda, Abid Mushtaq of Jammu and Kashmir, a 29-year-old left-arm spinner with a base price of INR 30 lakh, and KL Shrijith, a 29-year-old off-spinner from Karnataka have also been banned from bowling in the cash-rich league.
The Rajasthan-based cricketer has been in sublime form in domestic cricket. As a capped Indian player, he is expected to attract a big bid in the IPL.
