The CEO of Delhi Capitals (DC) Sunil Gupta has clarified the franchise’s intentions ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 mini auction in Abu Dhabi on December 16. Sunil said that the team would adopt a flexible yet aggressive approach at the auction, having missed out on the playoffs by just one point in IPL 2025.
Speaking about the retained players and the objectives of the franchise, he said in a video released by DC: “We have retained a solid group of players from last season. While we narrowly missed out on qualifying for the playoffs, it was a campaign filled with important learnings. We are taking those lessons forward and going again with a strong set of players, fully focused on achieving our objectives.”
Ahead of the auction, DC traded Donovan Ferreira to Rajasthan Royals in exchange for Nitish Rana. The experienced left-handed batter is expected to add depth and balance to the middle order. Sunil praised Rana, saying, “Nitish is a seasoned IPL campaigner and a valuable addition to our squad. His familiarity with home conditions, being a local boy, along with the crucial roles he has played for his previous franchises, makes him a natural fit for our setup.”
Sunil also lauded the scouting team for identifying talent that fits the squad’s requirements. “We have arrived in Abu Dhabi, and our preparations for the auction have been underway for quite some time. Our scouting team has done an excellent job, and we are clear about our targets as we look to complete the remaining requirements of the squad,” he added.
DC will enter the auction with a purse of INR 21.80 crore.
