Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes that it is better for the two veterans, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, to play more matches as they are currently available only in the ODI format.
Speaking on JioStar, Irfan said that the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 is still far away, and Rohit and Kohli should continue playing both international and domestic cricket.
“You definitely want to think about the ICC 2027 ODI World Cup. It is far away, but I just want to see both Rohit and Kohli playing for the longest time, for India and when not playing international cricket, in domestic cricket. They are playing just one format and nothing else, so the more they play, the better it is,” he said.
Many experts doubted the futures of the two batters after they stepped away from T20 and Test cricket. However, both gave befitting replies to the critics with their performances. Rohit scored a century and a half-century on the Australia tour to become the highest scorer of the series, amassing 202 runs in three matches at an average of 101.
Kohli, on the other hand, was dismissed for two ducks in the first two matches in Australia. However, his comeback was spectacular as he hit four back-to-back fifty-plus scores, including two centuries, thereafter.
Both batters will next be seen in action against New Zealand, with the first match scheduled to be played in Vadodara on January 11.
