The finalists of the MI Junior 2025 U-15 Girls tournament, Vasant Vihar School and St Columba, were treated to a memorable and enriching experience as they spent quality time with members of the Mumbai Indians Women’s Premier League (WPL) team. The interaction provided a unique, hands-on learning opportunity for the young cricketers, allowing them to gain first-hand insights from Head Coach Lisa Keightley, Bowling Coach and Team Mentor Jhulan Goswami, along with players Sajana S and Milly Illingworth.
The session was designed to be both engaging and educational, giving the finalists a chance to understand the finer aspects of the game while interacting closely with elite-level professionals. From technical discussions to practical demonstrations, the young players were exposed to the standards and mindset required to succeed at the highest level.
Sharing her thoughts on the MI Junior initiative, Bowling Coach and Team Mentor Jhulan Goswami highlighted the importance of such grassroots programmes. She said, “ Great initiative taken by the Mumbai Indians family and the best thing about that is young kids getting the opportunity to play in a quality tournament. MI Jr has a huge impact. Basically it’s a grassroots program. Hopefully after 4-5 years we’ll see one girl from here representing their state, representing our country.”
During the interaction, the girls took part in energetic on-field drills under the guidance of the MI coaches and players. These sessions not only helped them improve their technical skills but also provided valuable tips, motivation and encouragement. The initiative served as a strong bridge between grassroots cricket and elite-level preparation, giving the youngsters a glimpse into the demands and discipline of professional cricket.
The atmosphere throughout the session was lively and interactive. The finalists actively engaged with the Mumbai Indians members, asking questions about training routines, match preparation and life as a professional cricketer. The open and encouraging environment allowed the young players to express themselves freely while absorbing valuable lessons from their role models.
The experience concluded on a happy and inspiring note, with the girls receiving signed memorabilia from the Mumbai Indians players. The keepsakes served as a lasting reminder of a special day that combined learning, inspiration and joy, leaving the young talents motivated as they continue their cricketing journeys.
