MI’s Wicketkeeper-batter G Kamalini has been ruled out of the remainder of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 due to an injury. The injury forced Mumbai Indians (MI) to make a change to their squad, with the franchise naming left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma as her replacement. Now, Vaishnavi is making her WPL debut for MI against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Vadodara.
So far in the tournament, Kamalini had played all five matches for MI. She scored a total of 75 runs from 77 balls. While her batting was modest, her role as a wicketkeeper was important for team balance as she effected seven dismissals behind the stumps. The franchise has still not given any details about her injury. After her injury, MI now have only Rahila Firdous as their sole wicketkeeping option.
On the other hand, Vaishnavi is a spinner who recently made her international debut for India in the T20I series against Sri Lanka in Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram. She impressed by taking five wickets at an economy rate of 6.26.
Vaishnavi went unsold at the WPL auction in November but has now been signed by MI for INR 30 lakh. Kamalini was acquired for INR 1.60 crore after starting at a base price of INR 10 lakh.
The defending champions have lifted the trophy twice. Currently, they are placed second on the points table with two wins out of three matches.
