Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman is unfazed by losing a hefty sum of INR 9.2 crore following his exclusion from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

On the advice of the BCCI, the Knight Riders were forced to leave out Mustafizur, who had become the most expensive signing by a Bangladeshi player in IPL auction history. Despite missing out on the opportunity to play in the cash-rich league, as well as the substantial amount involved, Mustafizur remains “completely chill”, according to Bangladesh assistant coach Mohammad Ashraful.

“He (Mustafizur) is completely chill. He is not worried at all about the off-field talk, whether it’s BCB, India, BPL or ICC,” Ashraful, who is also an assistant coach of the Riders in the ongoing BPL, told reporters after their game against Chattogram Royals.

A day after receiving the news that he would not be playing in the IPL this year, Mustafizur helped his BPL side, Rangpur Riders, win a close match by five runs.

“Right now, he is focused on playing for Rangpur Riders, and after that, whatever assignment comes next, he will focus on that. He is a person on a different level,” Ashraful added.

With over 400 wickets in T20 cricket, Mustafizur is one of the most successful T20 bowlers in the world. Ashraful underlined the importance of having a player like him.

“If you look at Mustafizur’s performances in the first two matches, they were a bit below par. But the way we won the last match against Dhaka was outstanding, especially the way Mustafizur bowled those last two overs. I think he is a world champion in this format, that’s how important he is,” he said.

Mustafizur will hold the key to Bangladesh’s chances in the T20 World Cup, which begins on February 7.
