India Under-19 openers Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Aaron George etched their names into the record books in the third Youth ODI against South Africa in Benoni on January 7. The young duo stitched a memorable 227-run partnership, which is the highest opening partnership in Indian Youth ODI history.

South Africa opted to bowl first, and Suryavanshi, along with George, took charge right from the opening over. Suryavanshi scored 127 runs off 74 balls. His innings included nine boundaries and 10 sixes at a strike rate of 171.62. It was his third Youth ODI century and his first hundred as captain. Regular skipper Ayush Mhatre missed the series due to a wrist injury.

George complemented Suryavanshi well, scoring a composed 118 runs off 106 balls. His knock included 16 boundaries at a strike rate of 111.32. Apart from the openers, Vedant Trivedi (34), Abhigyan Kundu (21), and Mohamed Enaan (unbeaten 28) added crucial runs, helping India post a massive total of 393/7.

For South Africa, Ntando Soni was the standout bowler, picking up three wickets while conceding 61 runs in eight overs. Jason Rowles also claimed two wickets and gave away 59 runs.

Who is Aaron George?

George is a right-handed batter born in Hyderabad who idolises South Africa great AB de Villiers. He has represented India in the Under-19 Asia Cup. George has also featured in tournaments like the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where he scored 341 and 373 runs. He further impressed in the Vijay Merchant Trophy, where he remained unbeaten on 303 against Bihar.
