Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) off-spinner Shreyanka Patil said that she has always aimed to be a “wicket-taking” bowler for her team after taking her first fifer in the WPL to guide RCB to a victory against Gujarat Giants (GG) in the ninth game of the ongoing season.
Speaking after the match with the broadcaster, she explained the process she went through to achieve her goal: “I am a wicket-taker bowler. I’ve always said that because the drift I get, the turn I get and the bounce I get is something I’ve not seen much. I’m giving a lot of credit to myself. I don’t know why. But yeah, I think I’ve worked towards it. I just didn’t want to be a containing bowler. I wanted to be a wicket-taking bowler and be that impactful bowler for the team in any given situation, be it the powerplay, be it the middle-overs or the death because I’ve prepared so well in any given phase of the game.”
Shreyanka got her first wicket on the last ball of her first over when she trapped Beth Mooney LBW. She again trapped Kanika Ahuja LBW when Kanika tried to flick and missed the ball. Kashvee Gautam was caught off her bowling at long-on in her next over. She then removed Tanuja Kanwar and Renuka Singh in her final over to complete the five-wicket haul.
“I know that I’m looking to get wickets. So yeah, again, going back to practice, the scenarios I have played, the match-based scenarios, bowling against boys, getting hit, learning from them. I mean, it’s just a whole lot of hard work,” she added.
After missing the last WPL season due to an unfortunate injury, it has been a fantastic comeback so far for Shreyanka. With eight wickets to her name already, she is the joint highest wicket-taker. She will be in action for RCB when they take on Delhi Capitals (DC) in Navi Mumbai on January 17.
