Zimbabwe Cricket have roped in West Indies legend Courtney Walsh as the team’s bowling consultant for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which starts on February 7.

In order to bolster their preparations for the World Cup, Walsh has been added to Zimbabwe’s coaching staff. The first pacer to take 500 Test wickets, Walsh will work alongside bowling coach Charl Langeveldt and the rest of the coaching group: Justin Sammons (Head Coach), Dion Ebrahim (Assistant Coach) and Stuart Matsikenyeri (Fielding Coach).

“I think we have a very good chance once we execute well, work together as a team and adapt to the conditions,” Walsh said after his appointment. “The combination of the attack has impressed me from what I’ve watched, and there is a lot of potential within the team.”

Walsh has previously served as a specialist bowling coach for the Bangladesh men’s team and as head coach of the West Indies women’s side. He was also a technical consultant with the Zimbabwe women’s team in 2024.

“As we prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, it was important for us to bring in someone who understands what it takes to succeed on the global stage,” Makoni said. “Courtney’s knowledge, professionalism and ability to mentor players will be invaluable as we sharpen our bowling resources for the challenges ahead.”

The Sikandar Raza-led Zimbabwe are placed in Group B at the T20 World Cup, where they will compete against Australia, Ireland, Oman and Sri Lanka. All of their group-stage fixtures are slated to be played in Sri Lanka, with matches scheduled across three venues — two in Colombo and one in Pallekele. They kickstart their World Cup journey with an opening match against Oman on February 9.
