India U19 pacer Henil Patel opened up about his admiration for South Africa legend Dale Steyn, saying that batters found it difficult to face him.
In the first match of the ongoing ICC Men’s U19 World Cup, India emerged victorious against the USA at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. It was Henil’s spell that set up India’s win. Making full use of the overhead conditions, Henil wrecked the USA batting line-up with a five-wicket haul. There was a sense of calm in the way he bowled and celebrated in the opening game, unlike his idol, Steyn.
“What I take from Dale Steyn is his aggression. I like it a lot,” Patel told ICC Digital in an interview. “His bowling was so good that no batter could face him easily. He was very tough to play against.”
With the new ball in the Powerplay, Henil claimed three wickets in his first spell of six overs. The right-arm pacer consistently got the ball to shape away from the right-handed batters. USA batters struggled against the movement and bounce off the pitch. Henil was quick to assess the conditions and bowl the ideal length, which brought him rewards.
“I go in with the mindset of getting the batter out within three or four deliveries,” Henil said. “It’s about taking early wickets. I keep the same mindset and stay calm. I prepare with a clear plan in training, get my body ready, and approach matches in the same way.”
Having started the tournament on a memorable note, Henil will be looking to continue his good form with the ball.
