India’s former captain turned commentator Sunil Gavaskar and head coach Gautam Gambhir were extremely disappointed after Arshdeep Singh bowled seven wides in one over during the 2nd T20I match between India and South Africa in New Chandigarh.
Reacting to Arshdeep’s bowling Gavaskar who was on the commentators panel said, “You can’t be bowling the same line over and over again.” At the same moment camera showed Gambhir in the dugout, who was visibly angry as this shifted the momentum of the game completely. Captain Suryakumar Yadav along with Hardik Pandya also looked frustrated, with Arshdeep’s bowling.
This wide came during the 11th over which began with Quinton de Kock smashing a straight six which put pressure on Arshdeep. He then lost his rhythm and bowled two wides, he then recovered that with a dot ball but again lost his control and gave four more wide deliveries which helped South Africa to cross 100 runs. He then gave few singles and a double with another wide. He conceded 18 runs in that over.
South Africa posted a strong total of 213 runs at the loss of four wickets. De Kock scored 90 runs but missed century with an unfortunate run out by Jitesh Sharma. Aiden Markram (29), Donovan Ferreire (30) and David Miller (20*) also added crucial runs. Meanwhile for India Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets and Axar Patel managed to get one wicket.
The match was also special as it was the first-ever men’s international match in Mullanpur, where new stands named after world cup champions Yuvraj Singh and Harmanpreet Kaur was unveiled.
