Ahead of their high-profile game against Pakistan at the U-19 World Cup on Sunday, the India colts received a pep talk from the Master. Sachin Tendulkar interacted with Young India over a video call and shared insights from his glorious career.

The BCCI put out a post on its X (formerly Twitter) handle accompanied by images. It said: “The India Under 19 team playing in the ongoing Under 19 World Cup had a virtual interaction with the legend of World Cricket, Mr. Sachin Tendulkar.

“In what was an invaluable experience, the next generation got insights and perspectives on the important ingredients for success and longevity in an ever evolving sport, not just limited to technical skills and remaining fit but also the importance of staying focused, disciplined, humble and rooted in success.”

VVS Laxman, the head of cricket at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence, has already joined the squad in Zimbabwe, and he thanked his former teammate for the gesture. “Thank  you @sachin_rt for taking the time to interact with the U19 boys. Your experiences and perspective had a powerful impact. They were clearly inspired and motivated. These are lessons they will carry with them for a long time and they are truly grateful,” the former batting great wrote on his X handle.

The India-Pakistan game assumes even more significance as it comes against the backdrop of a heated encounter between the arch-rivals in the U-19 Asia Cup final a little over a month ago. As the legend, the only cricketer to have 100 international hundreds, spoke, the likes of Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi listened intently.

Back in 2023, Tendulkar had felicitated India U-19 women’s cricket team after their triumph at the inaugural ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa.
