Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell on Tuesday confirmed that he will put his name forward for the upcoming IPL 2026 auction, scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi on December 16.

Maxwell took to social media to announce that he will not take part in the next season after a great deal of deliberation.

The 37-year-old cricketer was released by the Punjab Kings, who had acquired him for Rs 4.2 crore in the IPL 2025 auction. It was a forgettable season for Maxwell, who scored only 78 runs and took four wickets in the nine games he played before being ruled out halfway through after suffering a fracture to his middle finger.

“After many unforgettable seasons in the IPL, I’ve decided not to put my name in the auction this year. It’s a big call, and one made with a lot of gratitude for everything this league has given me,” Maxwell wrote on his Instagram.

“The IPL has helped shape me as a cricketer and as a person. I’ve been lucky to play with world-class team-mates, represent incredible franchises, and perform in front of fans whose passion is unmatched. The memories, the challenges, and the energy of India will stay with me for ever. Thank you for all your support over the years. Hopefully see you soon,” Maxwell added.

Having played 141 games in his IPL career so far, Maxwell has always been a highly sought-after player in the auction.

Since making his IPL debut in 2012, Maxwell has amassed 2,819 runs along with 41 wickets. His best season came in 2014, when he scored 542 runs.

After Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali, Maxwell has become the third player to pull out of the cash-rich league.
