New Zealand have been hit by three injury blows, with Mitchell Santner, Matt Henry and Nathan Smith ruled out of the upcoming second Test against the West Indies. Uncapped pacers Kristian Clarke and Michael Rae have been called up to bolster the pace-bowling attack.

Henry (calf) and Smith (side) suffered injuries during the first Test of the three-match series against the West Indies. Santner, who did not play due to injury, has not recovered, which has also ruled him out of the second and third Tests against the Roston Chase-led West Indies team.

Kyle Jamieson and Will O’Rourke will remain on the sidelines as they are still managing “return-to-play protocols”.

First-choice wicketkeeper-batter Tom Blundell has already been ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury during the opening Test. Mitchell Hay has been called into the squad and is expected to make his Test debut at the Basin Reserve.

Rae and Clarke join Jacob Duffy, Zak Foulkes and Blair Tickner as the likely seam options for the Wellington Test.

Glenn Phillips, who proved his fitness bg playing Plunkett Shield, has been added to the squad and is likely to get a spot in the playing eleven.

A positive update for Tom Latham’s side is that Daryl Mitchell is set to be available for the upcoming Test.

The Basin Reserve will host the second Test between New Zealand and the West Indies from 10 December.

New Zealand squad for second Test vs West Indies: Tom Latham (capt), Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, Will Young, Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Hay (wk), Michael Bracewell, Glenn Phillips, Zak Foulkes, Jacob Duffy, Blair Tickner, Michael Rae, Kristian Clarke
