
Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan produced a stunning show of power-hitting that marked a new record in List A cricket during the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. Sarfaraz hammered a half-century in just 15 balls against Punjab in Jaipur to become the fastest Indian to reach the milestone in the format.
Sarfaraz broke the record of Abhijit Kale and Atit Sheth, both of whom had taken 16 balls to score their fifties. Coming in to bat at number three after his brother Musheer Khan (21) was dismissed, Sarfaraz immediately started attacking the Punjab bowlers. He reached his fifty in just 15 balls but was eventually dismissed for 62 runs off just 20 balls.
His innings included seven boundaries and five maximums at a remarkable strike rate of 310.00. He is currently the highest run-scorer for Mumbai with 303 runs in six matches at an average of 75.75 and a stunning strike rate of 190.56.
In the match, Punjab posted a decent total of 216 runs with the help of Ramandeep Singh, who scored 72 runs off 74 balls. Anmolpreet Singh also added a crucial 57 runs.
For Mumbai, Musheer Khan picked three important wickets, along with Shashank Attarde, Shivam Dube and Onkar Tarmale, who picked two wickets each.
While chasing, Mumbai got a decent start from Angkrish Raghuvanshi (23) and Musheer. Sarfaraz was well supported by captain Shreyas Iyer, who added 45 runs off 34 balls, but their efforts were not enough as Mumbai fell short by just one run.
Punjab produced a brilliant bowling performance as Mayank Markande and Gurnoor Brar picked four wickets each to help their side secure a one-run victory.
