Scotland have officially announced their squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on January 26, which marks their seventh appearance in the tournament. The team will be led by captain Richie Berrington and guided by new head coach Owen Dawkins. Scotland were also part of the first T20 World Cup in 2007, and now they will look to prove their growing strength in international cricket.
The squad is a mix of experience and new talent. Afghan-born Zainullah Ihsan has earned his maiden call-up after recently becoming eligible to represent Scotland. Another major boost for the squad is Tom Bruce, a former New Zealand international. He brings valuable experience to the squad, having already featured in 17 T20Is for the Black Caps.
Cricket Scotland chief executive Trudy Lindblade highlighted how committed they are to making Scotland part of the tournament on such short notice. “We are all committed [to] working with the ICC to make that happen…There is a team working very, very hard to not just help us, but to help 19 other teams as well that are also going to a World Cup. But we are their intense focus right now.”
Scotland will play their warm-up matches against Afghanistan and Namibia in Bengaluru on January 2 and 4. They will then play their first official match against West Indies on January 7 in Kolkata.
